Reading and Writing
Our daily reading workshop will include a whole group mini-lesson, small group strategy and skill instruction, and independent/partner activities. While I meet with small groups to work on reading skills, students will be working on independent reading activities that follow the specific reading skills we are studying. Some reading skills we will be practicing this year are main idea and supporting details, inferencing, asking questions, citing answers, analyzing characters, and comparing and contrasting story elements.
In writing, third graders will start the year with learning how to write a strong paragraph. We will then move into how to write informational, narrative, and opinion pieces. We have several writing and research projects already planned for the year!
